A few hours at the Oostvaardersplassen

Sunday January 24, 2010

During a cold afternoon we went to the Oostvaardersplassen, expecting to take pictures of red deer. Last year we also went there around the same time. This time however, the path thourgh the forest was still closed due to a rest period for the red deer.

I don't know why, but it could be due to the huge amount of snow the past few weeks. This cold period also affected some other animals; wild horses have crossed the Oostvaardersplassen. Because of the ice, the horses didn't see the difference between water and land and ended up in Almere. There's still a large group in Almere which usually is at the Lelystad side of the Oostvaardersplassen.
