Atomium

Monday October 19, 2009

Last weekend I stayed in Brussel with some classmates. We had a lot of fun ofcourse, but also did some sightseeing by visiting the Atomium in the famous Heizel park. Famous might not be the right word, because it's best known for the Heysel Stadium Disaster in the 1985 European Cup Football Final.

We were there for the Atomium though, so we ignored the (newly named) Koning Boudewijn Stadion. The Atomium can be seen from quite far and has a very impressive appearance. When standing next to it you suddenly realise what a huge building it actually is. Measuring over 100 metres in height it's a great sight. We visited four of the huge balls which are accesible through the large connecting shafts, which contain escalators.
